Things to Do in Barbados
Bridgetown is the capital city of Barbados and just about a 25-30 minutes’ drive from the main airport on the island (Grantley Adams Airport). This is also where major cruise lines dock when visiting so you’ll find plenty of attractions and fun things to do. When you stay at one of the many luxury resorts in Bridgetown, you’ll be just a short way from the beautiful Carlisle Bay that features beautiful light blue waters and plenty of water activities like boating and jet-skiing. Not only is this a divine beach location, but it is also filled with history from its British colonial roots. Check out the Barbados Garrison or the shipwreck ruins at Carlisle Bay Marine Park.
Located on the East Coast of the Island in the parish of St. Joseph, you can find amazing photo opportunities and great surfing. This side of the island is away from the bigger resorts but is still only about a 30-minute drive. There are unique rock formations protruding from the sand which makes it truly stunning to just relax and beach lounge, but the consistent big waves also make this a legendary surfing beach.
With both lively bars and relaxing sit-down restaurants, “The Gap” (as it is known to locals) is one of the most popular areas on the island. Located on the southern strip you’ll find plenty of spots to enjoy a meal or drink near the luxury resorts that intertwine with local residences and more affordable hotels. Anything from street vendor cuisine to coconut cocktails, sunset boardwalk strolls, and epic nightclubs - all of this and more at your fingertips in the famous Saint Lawrence Gap.
If you are searching for a true getaway look to northern Barbados. This is where the parish of St. Lucy is located and provides a similar setting to the eastern part of the island (rocky Atlantic beaches and great surf for experienced surfers), only with a few more luxury resorts nearby that you can call home for your entire stay. Make sure to visit Animal Flower Cave for great food and beach cave experiences that will amaze you and make you feel like a local all at once!
